Faltblatt_Neine Werbung.indd © City of Karlsruhe | Layout: Streeck | Image: AfA | Printing: Town hall printing, recycled paper | Status: May 2020 Where can you get the sticker "Please do not post advertising"? You can get the stickers free of charge from the Waste Management Office, the consumer advice center, various hardware stores and some sign and key services. City of Karlsruhe Waste Management Office Ottostraße 21, 76227 Karlsruhe Further information: www.karlsruhe.de/abfall or under the authority number: 115 Advertising, free newspapers and advertisements City of Karlsruhe Waste Management Office A problem for the environment and the cityscape Problem for the environment Flyer, Brochures, newspapers: they often end up unread in the waste paper or on the streets and pollute the environment. A lot of energy is used to make paper. It's a valuable product that shouldn't be wasted like that. What many do not know: You can defend yourself against the flood of advertising and at the same time help prevent soiling from advertising brochures flying around. Tips to keep things tidy  Bring brochures and newspapers into your house quickly so that they are not blown away by the wind.  A storage basket in the stairwell or in front of the front door creates order.  Remove excess advertising regularly. Give them to the associations and parishes' waste paper collection (dates at www.karlsruhe.de/abfall) or in the municipal paper bin. A small sticker can make a big difference If you do not want advertising, make this clear with a clearly visible sticker on the front door or on the mailbox. In this way you can avoid unnecessary advertising and make a contribution to the environment. If you would like to forego certain or all of the free newspapers with editorial content, the “Do not insert advertising” sticker is not sufficient. These sheets can still be thrown in. If you do not want free advertising supplements, you should put a special note on the mailbox. For example, the note “No advertising - no flyers, no direct mail, no free newspapers and weekly papers”. ! What you should know Please note that if you forego the courier, you will also forego the official journal of the city of Karlsruhe, the “StadtZeitung”. Report grievances If you discover that distributors are not working carefully, for example, dropping advertising loosely on your doorstep, or ignoring the “no advertising” sign, you can report this to the sales outlets specified in the advertising. Some publishers have set up a complaint office especially for such cases. If you continue to receive unsolicited advertising, you can request the company in question by registered letter, preferably with a reply, to refrain from advertising. You can refer to the decision of the Federal Court of Justice of December 20, 1988, file number VI ZR 182/88, according to which advertising companies must pay attention to the sticker "Do not throw in advertising". In addition, you can take legal action or contact your consumer advice center, which will collect such cases and, if necessary, initiate warning procedures. Special cases You have to put up with personally addressed mailings and advertisements distributed by Swiss Post that are delivered together with subscribed newspapers, despite the "No advertising" sticker in the mailbox. But you have the option of being put on the “Robinson list”. This will take you from the lists of member companies of the Deutscher Dialogmarketing Verband e. V. (DDV) deleted. Information is available on the Internet at www.ichhabediewahl.de. For companies that are not members of the DDV, the consumer advice centers recommend a registered letter with a reply and the following formulation: "I object to the use or transmission of my data for advertising purposes or for market and opinion research (Section 28 (4) of the Federal Data Protection Act)".

Only when the city employees accept the pollutants do ownership and responsibility pass to the city of Karlsruhe. And please remember: Active environmental protection begins with the purchase. Many cleaning agents can be replaced by environmentally friendly agents such as soft soap and vinegar. Think in advance how much paint and varnish you will need, for example. Faltblatt_Ohne Maden.indd © City of Karlsruhe | Layout: Streeck / Palme-Mittmann | Images: Text & Design, AfA, www.hob-design.de | Printing: Town hall printing, recycled paper | Status: October 2018 Molds In summer, food molds faster. High temperatures promote the activity and reproduction of microorganisms. Molds are poisonous and a source of infection for people with weakened immune systems. Under no circumstances should you eat moldy foods. Wrap them up in newspaper as quickly as possible and put them in the organic waste bin. This will prevent fungal spores from getting unnecessarily into the air. D By the way, did you know that flies and dung beetles had to be imported into Australia in order to break down the dung from the rabbits and cattle that were previously imported? Flies are often a nuisance to us, but they are part of our ecosystem. Advice Do you have any questions? City of Karlsruhe Waste Management Office Ottostraße 21, 76227 Karlsruhe Authority number 115 E-Mail: [email protected] Internet: www.karlsruhe.de/abfall Through the year without maggots City of Karlsruhe Waste Management Office Unloved guests One thing in advance: maggots are harmless and none Health hazard. Nevertheless, some people are shocked when they discover them in the organic waste bin on hot summer days. Aside from the sight, these guests cannot do any harm. Maggots occur when flies lay their eggs in open food. The organic waste bin can be a pleasant place to stay for flies. The maggots hatch from their eggs within a few days. They feel good in the humid, warm climate. Tips to avoid maggots Flies fly on organic  Fly screens in front of the kitchen windows keep flies out.  Do not leave food standing around openly.  Use pre-sorting containers with lids for your organic waste. You can obtain this from the Office for Waste Management for a small fee.  Cover closed: keep your biowaste bin and your pre-sorting container closed. This will prevent flies from laying their eggs.  Empty your pre-sorting container every day in summer.  Clean the biowaste bin at regular intervals. Maggots like it hot ...  Find a shady spot for your organic waste bin. ... and damp  Wrap your organic waste in plenty of newspaper or put it in paper bags. Please do not use bags made of compostable bioplastics. These are not suitable for the subsequent recycling of the biowaste in a fermentation plant.  After each emptying, place cardboard or crumpled paper on the bottom of the organic waste bin. This makes it uncomfortable for the maggots and the organic waste cannot stick to the bottom of the bin. This means that the organic waste bin can be completely emptied on the day of collection. Please do not use glossy paper, it contains heavy metals. Made goodbye Sprinkle rock flour, bentonite or dolomite lime in the bin. Maggots consist mainly of water. The most radical method of depriving them of their livelihood is the use of quicklime or rock flour. Quicklime has a corrosive effect together with water. You should therefore be careful with quicklime. Rock flour has a water-attracting effect and takes away the necessary moisture from the maggots. Quicklime, bentonite, rock flour or special organic bin powder are available from hardware stores or garden centers. Leave the harmless maggots in the bin until the next time they are emptied.
